Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

The position of Aireon Quality Management Specialist assumes significant responsibility for Quality Assurance across the entire Aireon organization, with a particular focus within the Engineering department. The Quality Management Specialist will assist with the facilitation and audit of the Aireon QMS infrastructure and will be an integral part of the team that will be responsible for ensuring that Aireon consistently delivers the highest quality services to the global aviation community. The QA Specialist will collaborate with team-members across Engineering and other departments, supporting various activities throughout the system lifecycle from implementation to deployment into operational service.

 

What You'll Do

  • In keeping with a risk-based approach, develop audit checklists and flexible audit plans, and then manage and conduct audits in accordance with the methods defined in the quality system
  • Oversee implementation, maintenance, control and verification of the quality management system and processes and quality initiatives
  • Implement methods, tools and qualification for process or organization assigned
  • Contribute to implementation and continuous improvement of quality systems, processes, guidelines and to driving quality initiatives for organization or process assigned
  • Provide technical guidance on quality system, processes, audits, methods, tools and vendor and customer-related quality topics for processes, tasks and organizations assigned
  • Conduct trend analysis for deviations and review/approve applicable CAPA records
  • Coordinate investigation of the root cause of deviations, implementation and sharing of corrective actions and lessons learned, foster standardization and ensure availability of technical and methodological know-how
  • Keep and oversee the files and records for quality system records including audit plans, inspections and audit reports, CAPs
  • Plan and organize the quality system trainings and the trainings requested, oversee delivery of training and technical support on quality process-related processes and methods
  • Consolidate KPI tracking and reporting regularly
  • Support the effective, efficient, safe, and economical implementation of all operational and administrative practices
  • Support and actively implement the documentation and record management systems
  • Coordinate the execution of PSA/FSA audits with CM and Logistics functions
  • Actively work to incorporate quality management system principles into Aireon’s integrated management system and support overall improvement of an integrated management system

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, information technology, or industry equivalent
  • 5+ years of work experience in a regulated aviation or information technology environment
  • Extended knowledge of quality management processes with hands-on experience, as they pertain to an integrated management system
  • Ability to independently research and analyze complex situations and problem solve
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.)
  • Extended knowledge of root cause analysis
  • Familiar with Azure Management Standards
  • Familiar with ISO Standards

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of configuration/data management (CM/DM) processes and methodologies, development techniques, and applicable industry standards and best practices
  • Experience in the Air Traffic Control or within Aviation systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of the basics of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Security Management Systems (SeMS)

1-3-6-12 Month Plan

 

In the first month, we'll expect you to...

  • Get onboarded and train with your manager
  • Get acclimated into the role
  • Understand the tools and different stakeholders
  • Get accustomed to the company manuals, aviation regulations, standards

At 3 months, we'll expect you to...

  • Identify risk-based priorities and develop a plan of approach
  • Review existing process and procedures and make recommendations for change to make more fit-for-purpose
  • Complete the internal auditor training
  • Start to prepare the audit checklists by coordinating with Sr Manager Compliance & Assurance

At 6 months, we'll expect you to...

  • Work with the Sr. Manager Compliance & Assurance to fully integrate QA in Aireon and identify required manual changes
  • Complete the whole audit checklists

At 12 months, we'll expect you to...

  • Retire the ‘stand-alone’ QA Manual and have fully integrated all QA processes into AIMS
  • Deliver audit techniques training to internal personnel
  • Have a mature audit plan based on risk-based analysis of system and service

About the Team

  • The team is close-knit but diverse, as many functional areas fall within the Safety and Operations domain within engineering
  • Many team members are in the office regularly, as we provide a 24-hour service from two locations; we encourage 2-3 days in the office
  • The Engineering Team has meetings every two weeks, with other smaller group meetings depending on activities
  • The majority of team members are located in VA and MD
